Screens at Øresund Aquarium help give visitors a unique experience

A unique experience at the Øresund Aquarium

Interview with Jens Peder Jeppesen, Aquarium Manager and Marine Biologist at Øresundsakvariet.

The Øresund Aquarium in Elsinore has over 40,000 visitors annually. They have around 35 screens: small screens, a large screen wall, a video wall and an info stand screen, all of which provide information about the fish in the museum’s aquariums and about various activities at the aquarium.

Interactive experiences are the way to satisfied guests

Museum visitors expect intense holistic experiences, which is a challenge for many small museums. Before Øresundsakvariet installed information screens in their exhibition, visitors complained that they weren’t getting enough for their money. According to Jens Peder, that experience has changed:

"The screens help make the aquarium experience much more intense. Guests are activated, they feel they get more for their money when they visit the aquarium and are therefore more satisfied."

Jens Peder explains that he has become aware of how digitally oriented the guests are. Children, young people and grandparents find it natural to tap on the screens and get information about the animals in the aquariums. The touch screens invite guests to tap the screens and be enlightened. Jens Peder has always been proud of the aquarium. But he is overwhelmed by the new digital presentation and is convinced that it has given visitors something extra:

"We didn't expect how positive an impact it would have and how much better the visitor experience is for guests."

Simple communication with endless possibilities

At Øresundsakvariet they change the fish several times a week. Digital signage has replaced the old-fashioned illuminated signs. It took a long time to change the information on the old signs – with the new info screens it only takes 15 minutes, says Jens Peder.

"The Visiosign screens are a great tool for communication. It has been truly revolutionary for us in our daily work. As well as being a great relief for our editors, the screens have improved the audience's perception of our exhibitions."

Jens Peder says that they still have exhibitions where they haven’t yet installed touchscreens, and they have noticed that visitors don’t engage in the same way when reading about the fish. He has many ideas on how to make the visitor experience even more unique and how Visiosign’s products can be used for improvements.

"There really are endless possibilities for what we can do with the screens. So it's just a matter of opening them up."

Specifically, Jens Peder dreams of more big screens to show films and images, as well as room and meeting room screens in front of the museum’s meeting rooms. He is confident that digital communication will help future-proof the Øresund Aquarium.

Professional design, installation and support are the hallmarks of working with Visiosign

Jens Peder especially emphasizes the great effort and cooperation he has had with project managers, installers and support staff from Visiosign in connection with the establishment and operation of their solutions.

"Working with Visiosign is great, the design of our screens is a great success - it has become much better than I ever imagined." "Visiosign support is very friendly and accommodating. When we call, the problem is solved very quickly."
